The Future of AI Will Be Small

small language models and local inference will drive next wave of AI adoption

Enterprise AI

I envision a world where everyone has their own personal operating system. It knows your routines, surfaces important notes and messages, and nudges you to accomplish your goals

This AI system lives on the consumer edge: your phone, watch, smart glasses, airpods, or AI pendant. It captures sounds and images around you, becomes attuned to your preferences, and helps you spend more time interacting with the world and people around you.

AI will help us spend less time finding summer camps for our kids, or trying to figure out the best time for a playdate. Instead we’ll spend less time planning and more time being present with the world around us.

I realize there’s a less rosy outcome. Technology has the risk to pull us further away from the real world as more devices compete for increasingly limited attention. Despite this, I remain optimistic that we’ll be able to connect more deeply with the people and world around us.
